Our Origins and vision

The History of Burundi Development Empowerment Solutions (BDES)

BDES was founded in response to the administrative transformation that began with the designation of Gitega as Burundi’s political capital in 2015. Recognizing the shift of key government ministries, state institutions, private sector actors, and NGOs to the country’s center, we saw the need for a local institution capable of offering relevant services to support this transition.

The creation of BDES was therefore both timely and strategic. We envisioned an organization that would not only provide practical solutions to the growing needs of relocated institutions but also empower individuals, communities, and local organizations to thrive in this new administrative environment.

BDES was established with a mission to deliver high-quality services in project development, evaluation, language services, digital innovation, training, and development consultancy—positioning itself as a key partner in Burundi’s development journey.
